Bombora Wave Power received a permit and conditional license to conduct experimental trials of the Bombora system from the Swan River Trust for their Como (Wadjuk) test site, adjacent to the Como Jetty.
Bombora will initially field trial a scaled version of its system. A number of test configurations will be conducted after this initial deployment, over the license period. “People find it hard to appreciate the varied opportunities Bombora presents without being able to “kick the tires”. Field trials will validate the design features and robustness of key components and provide that level of assurance.” said Executive Director, Shawn Ryan.
Bombora aims to have a point of difference to other Wave Energy Convert developers by realising revenues sooner in alternative addressable markets, particularly river edge (shoreline) protection and marina fetch wave and boat wash attenuation. “These markets have a lower barrier to entry and are particularly important in WA, with many of the aging marinas needing a facelift and critical infrastructure situated in storm exposed areas of the Swan river, particularly the Kwinana freeway portion of it.” Shawn Ryan.
