Offshore Oil and Gas Project

About the Oil and Gas project

In 2018, Oil and Gas operations in the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) were responsible for 18.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions. Of this figure, 10.22 million tonnes CO2e are directly attributable to power and heat generation on permanent installations. The combined interest of reducing environmental impact, and reduction in expenditure through carbon pricing and emissions trading schemes creates a massive potential for renewable energy, generated in situ, to supply these installations.

Bombora is working together with a major global EPCI contractor, well established in the industry, to design and develop both a floating mWave platform and an integrated floating mWave and wind turbine platform. Installed adjacent to oil and gas platforms, these floating mWave structures could supply clean energy to assist the offshore operational transition to electrification.

Through this partnership, a demonstration project to launch a single platform at a test site is being developed, followed up by a larger scale deployment powering a carefully selected platform in collaboration with the operator.
