Ocean energy solutions company Bombora is very pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Buglass to its Board of Directors. Andrew joins Bombora at a critical time as the team prepare to deploy the full-scale 1.5MW mWave™ Pembrokeshire Demonstration Project later in 2020. At the same time Bombora is progressing wave park opportunities in Lanzarote and developing a global project pipeline.

Bombora has developed a ground-breaking wave energy converter called mWave™, poised to realise the untapped potential of ocean energy. As ocean waves pass over mWave, invisibly located below the sea’s surface, its rubber membranes inflate and deflate, pumping air through a turbine to generate clean electricity. Bombora’s mWave is unique among wave energy converters as it addresses the ‘cost of energy’, ‘scalability’ and ‘ocean wave survivability’ challenges.
Andrew Buglass joins Bombora with a
wealth of expertise in the energy sector, having delivered over £11 billion of investment in
more than 30 countries through senior roles with investors and banks including
Royal Bank of Scotland, ING Bank, PowerGen plc and Unocal Corporation. In
recent years he has focused on the funding and commercialisation of newer
energy technologies and solutions. Andrew’s proven track record, together with his
ability to access a network of key stakeholders across business, government and
finance, will be a major asset to the Board of Directors as they steer the business
to commercial success.
Andrew currently
holds posts as a Non-Executive Director for Umeme Ltd and Enbridge UK Holdings.
Andrew also holds advisory roles for Wave Energy Scotland and the Energy and
Utility Forum and has previously acted as a Special Adviser to the UK Government’s
parliamentary select committee on energy investment matters.

About Bombora and mWave™
- Bombora has developed a membrane style wave energy converter called an ‘mWave™’. Located 10 meters beneath the ocean’s surface, similar to a fully submerged reef, it is invisible from the shoreline. As ocean waves pass over mWave, the membranes deflect pumping air through a turbine to generate electricity. Electricity is directly transferred to shore via a submerged cable.
